First weigh-in. Well, THAT’S annoying!

So, yeah, I know WW says I’m not supposed to, but I’ve been looking at the scale every morning since re-joining and following the “Simple Start” plan for a week.  I was feeling really good because after gaining a random pound the first day, the number kept going down, down, down every day after.  By yesterday morning I was down 4 whole pounds!

I made sure I laid off the sodium yesterday.  No super salty foods, no diet soda …. lots and lots of water.  I followed the plan all day (as I have all week) and felt pretty good when I went to bed last night.  I was happy I’d wake up this morning and head into the meeting with a FOUR POUND loss.  WOOP!!!

But wouldn’t you know it.  This is SO typical for my body.  I woke up this morning almost 2 pounds up from yesterday.  Why?  WHO ON EARTH KNOWS!  It’s just what my body does.  All the time.  It’s really frustrating and annoying, and it’s actually the reason I weigh in daily instead of once a week (See more on that in this post I wrote a while back).  So at least when my weight pops up for no apparent reason, I don’t feel like I’ve been a complete failure all week.

So anyway…. I just got back from my official weigh-in and according to the WW scale, I lost a whopping 1.2 pounds this week.  *sigh*

Yes, yes, I know, I know…. I don’t need the lecture about how 1-2 pounds is the recommended weight loss, and that 1 pound of fat is like that big scary lump of yellow stuff they show you in the meetings.  I know.  It’s just really frustrating when I know there is no way on earth I actually, legitimately, gained 2 pounds overnight and it’s like the Weight Loss Gods like to play a little joke on me every weigh-in day just to get a laugh. Well I don’t think it’s funny!

But ok we’ll go with it.  As I promised myself I would do every Friday… here is my official WW weigh-in for 2/7/14: 204.8 lbs.
Hopefully I’ll have better luck next week.

Day 5 – Weight Watchers ‘Simple Start’

Well, as I mentioned the other day… I rejoined Weight Watchers last week.  So far the only change to the plan I’ve noticed is the new “Simple Start,” which is basically just 2 weeks of following the Simply Filling plan before diving into the regular WW Points Plus plan (or choosing to stay with Simply Filling if you wish). 

It’s probably a good idea, as it helps you focus on eating whole foods instead of the processed weight-loss junk WW has a bad reputation of pushing.  But I have to say — I’m a bit skeptical about it.  Only because with Simply Filling you don’t have to track or measure anything except for foods that are not on the list of “Power Foods.”  That worries me a bit because a big part of the reason I’m here is that I’m not good with portion control (obviously).

But so far, so good, I think.  I already eat a very whole-foods-based diet, so it hasn’t been much of a challenge for me… and I’m kinda loving that I get 7 points a day to eat chocolate or peanut butter or whatever other “cheats” I want.  That’s kind of nice.

Oh and I peeked at the scale this morning and it was looking pretty good.  So I’m  just going to keep plugging along and hope Friday morning’s weigh-in makes me a believer!  I’ll keep you posted!

Friday Weigh-in

Holy cow where did the week go???

I had every intention of posting my food journal each day this week, and as you can see… that didn’t happen.  Well, I saved you from that boredom, so you can thank me for that.

I ended up not being able to follow the “Simply Filling” plan this week.  1) I was way too swamped with post-vacation catch-up work that I barely had time to prepare food, and SF really requires a lot of time and prep.  2) I was not in control of a couple of meals this week — meaning I had to eat away from home and others were preparing the food so I knew I couldn’t be picky and demand only lean meat and veggies.

But fear not!
I actually did great this week! Not only did I re-lose the 4 pounds I had re-gained over vacation… but I also lost another pound on top of that!

I’m not dumb enough to actually believe that I lost 5 pounds this week.  To be honest, I don’t think I really gained back the 4.  I think when I weighed in after vacation I was carrying a lot of water weight, or something crazy was going on.  No, I didn’t eat great while on vacation (hello cinnamon rolls and pizza!!), but I didn’t go hog wild either.  I also had two good runs on the beach that week and walked a TON at Disneyland.  So it really didn’t make sense that I had gained 4 whole pounds.

So with all that being said, I am still UP way too close to 200 pounds, but I’m still working really hard — sticking to the plan and exercising 5-6 times a week — and I’m very happy I’m down this week.  My short term goal is to be back to 188 by the time we go to Arkansas for my stepson’s wedding next month.  That means I’ll need to lose 9 pounds in 6 weeks.  Totally doable.

Since I don’t have any meal pics to post this week, I’ll just share this pic of my daughter and me on the beach last week. Yes, I’m still sad I’m not on vacation. 😦

Post-vacation Blues

Well, I’m back from our fun-filled week in San Diego and Disneyland, and yes… I have the post-vacation blues.  I always have such a hard time coming back to the real world after some time away.  I dread unpacking everything, doing the mountains of laundry, checking all the backlogged emails from work, and of course taking care of the dreaded grocery shopping.  Yuck.

Oh and remember that 4 pounds I was so happy to lose before vacation?  Well, I found them.  *sigh*  That just adds to my depression!

Oh well….  It is what it is.  I think vacation is just always going to be a trouble area for me.  Eating away from home is always hard anyway, but I can’t imagine going on a vacation and not eating ice cream and fun treats the whole time.  I know people do it.  I’ve listened to some of my fellow Weight Watchers brag about how they stayed on plan and didn’t gain a pound on vacation, but I have never been one of those people.

And I know it’s an unhealthy way to look at food (we’re only supposed to see food as nutrition and energy, right??), but to me having treats and indulgences is part of the fun of vacation and I think it would take some serious counseling and a major personality overhaul to get me to change my mind on that one!

The thing is… I only go on vacation once, maybe twice, a year.  So obviously eating “badly” on vacation isn’t what got me to this place, or even keeps me here.  It’s the other 355 days of the year!

So with that being said… I’m gonna jump back on the Simply Filling wagon for one more week this week to “detox” from vacation, and hopefully lose those 4 pounds pretty quickly again.  Which means y’all will have the pleasure of viewing my food journal again!  Woohoo! I apologize in advance, as I know looking at my meals for a week is not exactly thrilling, but it really helps keep me on track for some reason so bear with me.

Simply Filling Experiment – Day 11

I didn’t get a photo of lunch today, but I was pretty proud of myself because I went out to lunch with a friend and I still stayed on plan.  I am finding that is very hard to do with Simply Filling — and I have a real weakness with eating out anyway.  I’m always impressed with myself when I actually stay under control at a restaurant!  Sad, isn’t it?

We went to a Teriyaki place, though, and I had a small brown rice bowl topped with steamed veggies and grilled chicken breast. And I only ate half the rice.  Yay me!!

The rest of the day looked like this:

Breakfast was leftover chili and a peach.  Snack was an apple and dinner was a turkey burger topped with a slice of soy cheese and some sauteed mushrooms.  

Two more days til vacation!!!

Day 10 of Simply Filling

To be honest, I’m getting kind of tired of “Simply Filling,” but it seems to be working and I only have 3 more days until vacation, so I’m sticking with it.

Breakfast was some fat-free turkey breast slices, fat-free cottage cheese and a peach.  Lunch was a veggie salad with homemade dressing and chicken breast on top.  I had a string cheese later in the day, but didn’t take a picture.  Dinner was some really yummy potato-crusted cod and green beans.

Now for some sleep!  

Day 9 – Simply Filling + chocolate

There are some days a girl just needs her chocolate.  This was one of those days.

Breakfast was egg + whites scrambled with homemade turkey sausage and mushrooms. And a peach.  Lunch was another in-the-car on-the-go Luna bar.  Dinner was chili and some watermelon.  I tried to recreate last week’s awesome chili, but this wasn’t as good.  Dangit I should have written down what I did.

Then came the chocolate craving from hell. I just couldn’t shake it so I let myself have a handful of chocolate chips.  I’m not gonna lie — they were awesome.
